St Andrew's Festival starts well

High temperatures did not deter the energy and commitment of rugby players during the first five fixtures of the St Andrew’s College biennial Easter Rugby Festival in Grahamstown. Commencing on Thursday 5 April on the picturesque Lower Field the festival attracted many spectators and supporters from the community.

There were noteworthy victories for two “township” schools – Itembelihle of Port Elizabeth and Nathaniel Nyaluza of Grahamstown.

St Andrew’s College vs Stirling, 16-8

Down at half-time St Andrew’s College eventually won 16-8. They started the match well and played constructive rugby for the first 15 minutes. Stirling however are a well drilled side and their defense matched the St Andrew’s offence. The middle half of the game was quite scrappy with both teams conceding penalties and turnovers. Stirling however crossed the line before half time to lead 5-3 at the break. St Andrew’s managed to lift the tempo in the last quarter and a try by James Maasdorp gave them an eight-point cushion which they held onto until the final whistle.
