Schools Top 20: May 1

RANKINGS: May Day is an international distress signal, which may be appropriate for those attempting to draw up Rugby356‘s first Top 20 of the season.

It was hard to choose the Number 1 spot and then it got harder! But it is done without bias, not that anybody will agree with it. It’s rather like picking a team: the selectors would individually pick a different team but this is the one chosen by consensus.

All of that tells you that this is not perfect by any manner of means, nor is it absolute. It is, in effect, an opinion to acknowledge schools 1st XVs that are doing really well in South Africa where many hundreds of school play rugby with great enthusiasm and skill.

In short, one should not take this list too seriously. But you can be sure that just making this list is an excellent achievement.

In making the choice, scores are used but not any maths formula. Instead the method is one suggested by a professor of statistics sciences at a prominent university.
