VIDEO: Rassie ready to step down

WATCH as South Africa’s Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus, in an hour-long video, unpacks the reasons for his decision to no longer stay quiet about refereeing decisions.

An indignant Erasmus sat down for this ‘clear the air’ session after his team lost 17-22 to the British and Irish Lions in the first Test in Cape Town last Saturday.

The two teams meet again in the second Test this Saturday and the third Test next week – at the same venire, the Cape Town Stadium.

Feeling aggrieved about the inconsistencies and the behaviour of the B&I Lions management, Erasmus said he is willing to risk a fine.

He added that he would be willing to step away from the Springbok management team for the final two Tests and would also stop being a water boy.

With a host of clips, he shows how the match officials failed to show his team the same respect as the opposition – highlighting a host of officiating discrepancies in detail.

“I did this in isolation,” he said, adding: “This is not the Springboks and it is not SA Rugby.

“I believe in fairness and I believe the two teams must have an equal chance of competing in a match.

“I am not saying the referee is a cheat.

“I am just saying we wanted clarity, on a Sunday, which we [only] got on Tuesday.

“I am not very convinced with the clarity [explanations] I got from Nic Berry on the issues in this match.”
