Britz hungry for game time in Bloem

Willie Britz, who has recently signed for the Cheetahs, is looking forward to getting stuck in to his new home-away-from-home team.

Britz has played over five years of his rugby in Bloemfontein having been a part of the Shimlas in the Varsity Cup during his studies at Free State University.

The lively loose forward has come to realise that at the Lions he is no longer an automatic choice prompting him to make the move to the Free State.

"The reality is that I'm behind the likes of Warren Whiteley and Derick Minnie at the Lions. So the move to the Cheetahs offers me more opportunity to get game time," the wild-hair flank told the MyPlayers website.

The Cheetahs will lose several key players ahead of the 2015 Super Rugby campaign, including the likes of captain Adriaan Strauss, flank Pieter Labuschagné (both reportedly to the Bulls), Johan Goosen (Racing Métro), Hennie Daniller (Zebre), Riaan Smit (Oyonnax), Rynard Landman (Newport Gwent Dragons), Nick Schonert (Worcester Warriors) and Andries Ferreira (Zebre).

Even with this exodus, Britz still holds out that the Cheetahs can remain competitive, basing it on the experience his impressive Lions had this season.

"The Lions hardly had any big-name players going into this year's Super Rugby tournament, but we went on to secure our most successful campaign in the franchise's history," said Britz.

"Credit must be given to our coach, Johan Ackermann, who did a great job rebuilding this team.

"The players also played for each other as there is a strong brotherhood within the squad."

Britz continued to praise his now former team stating that their Super Rugby form should see them be competitive in the Currie cup.

"We won't lose too many players after Super Rugby, so there's plenty of consistency," said Britz.

"Super Rugby has given the team plenty of confidence and momentum, and we'll use that to make sure we're successful in the Currie Cup."
