Promising Western Province youngster heads to Japan

TRANSFER NEWS: Former Junior Springbok and Western Province centre Damian Markus has joined the Blue Revs in Japan for the 2024/5 League One season.

Markus, who made his Currie Cup debut for Western Province in 2023 has also featured in the 2024 edition of the competition and was touted by many to enter the Stormers ranks more prominently in the near future following his debut in a friendly against Northampton Saints earlier this year.

The 21-year-old centre also represented the Junior Springboks in the World Rugby U20’s tournament in 2023 and captained the Western Province U21 side this season.

Markus commented on his new move saying: “I am very happy to be part of the Blue Revs,”

“All my teammates and staff welcomed me warmly.

“I like Iwata City because it’s a very calm place and I can switch on and off quickly.

“I will continue to work hard and become a great player and a great person in this city.

“I will continue to think positively about each and every day and challenge myself to do my best.”
