A peek at Sharks' future

CURRIE CUP REACTION: The Sharks seemed to have unearthed a fine talent out wide in the form of Aphelele Fassi.

The 20-year-old made his Currie Cup debut off the bench in the Sharks’ 26-10 demolition of the Blue Bulls in Durban on Saturday.

Within a matter of seconds of being on the field and in his first touch of the ball in Currie Cup rugby, Aphelele Fassi latched on to a loose ball and sprinted downfield for a try.

The youngster showed great speed and awareness out wide while he was on the field and is an exciting prospect going forward for the Durban team.

“He is a special kid, he is very talented,” said Sharks head coach Robert du Preez.

“We play him on the wing, but he is actually a fullback. It’s great to have a guy like that in your setup.

“Hopefully he will get a start. I’m not concerned with starting him at all. He can start any time.”

Meanwhile, despite the win, Du Preez was not happy about his team’s accuracy in the strike zone.

“Our accuracy wasn’t great, so that’s something that we definitely have to work on.”

He added: “We do create a lot of opportunities and we need to convert those. Our conversion rate is not great.

“I’m happy with where we are. I think the attitude and intent of the boys was very good.”
