Boland's growth continues

Boland bounced back from an opening round 16-44 defeat at the hands of the Free State Cheetahs but their overall performance left much to be desired as they failed to round off numerous opportunities.

"I felt that we had a lot of scoring opportunities that we never put away and we need to be more clinical in that respect. We lost our way a bit and never stuck to the game plan. We chased things unnecessarily instead of sticking to the recipe but it is an improved performance.

"I thought we were good defensively and fought hard in the collision. We put a lot of pressure on the Kings defensively which resulted in us getting a lot of turnovers but we failed to put the turnovers away.

"We have to be realistic about where we are and the fight that awaits us to improve our standards. We are not the finished product yet but this young team is certainly growing," Janse van Rensburg said.

Janse van Rensburg knew his side were going to be in a fight, considering some Kings players have Super Rugby and Currie Cup experience.

"Their [The Kings] performance didn't surprise me. They have good players and we knew it would be a fight against a side that has nothing to lose and are fearless. Obviously, the big teams will know more about them now but I think, and hope, that they can build from this.

"I am happy for the Union and must congratulate their players and coaching staff. It is great to see them remain in the Currie Cup," he added.
