Carr under the knife
Dobson confirmed that Carr went under the knife on Monday.
Dobson said they are trying to determine the extent of the shoulder injury that has been plaguing him since the latter rounds of Super Rugby – when he returned from the Stormers' tour of Australasia – and the aggravated it in the quarterfinal loss to the Chiefs.
"It [the arthroscopy] will determine how long he will be sidelined for," Dobson told a media briefing ahead of WP's Round Three Currie Cup home game against the table-topping Free State Cheetahs – Friday at Newlands.
The Stormers coach also confirmed that wing Khanyo Ngcukana will be sidelined for a couple of weeks with nerve damage in his shoulder, suffered in the Round One loss to the Blue Bulls.
Replacement hooker Chad Solomon is also out with an ankle injury, suffered in the trip to Loftus Versfeld earlier this month.
The WP mentor confirmed that lock Chris van Zyl will continue to captain the team for the rest of the season, after leading the team out for the first time against the Bulls.
Dobson is also hoping to have Sevens Springbok Cheslin Kolbe available for the encounter with the Cheetahs this coming Friday.
"Cheslin is back [from the Rio Olympics] on Tuesday," the coach said, adding that he will chat to the utility back to see "where he is mentally" and how "scarred" he is.
"He has a slightly sore calf," Dobson said of the BlitzBok, adding: "He might be in the selection frame for this week."
However, fellow Sevens flyer Seabelo Senatla is out with a fractured wrist, sustained during the Boks' final pool fixture at the Olympic Sevens tournament last week.
Tim Agaba, another of the Sevens' contracted players that could potentially be available to WP, is taking some time off and it is not certain when (if) he will be available for the Cape Town outfit.
Kings hooker Martin Ferreira has been training with WP, meaning he too could be in the selection frame this week.
