Cheetahs get some serious talent back
CONTRACT NEWS: Free State Rugby continues to ‘build’ for the future, announcing that two loose forwards have extended their contracts with the Cheetahs.
Gideon van der Merwe and Andisa Ntsila, two of the franchise’s standout players during the Currie Cup season, signed on for another year.
Two former Cheetah players, Daniel Maartens (flank) and Tapiwa Mafura (wing/fullback), will also be returning to the Bloemfontein-based franchise in November – after a stint at the Pumas in Nelspruit.
The latest signings follow a week after the Cheetahs managed to retain the services of two legends of the game – Frans Steyn and Ruan Pienaar.
Last month the Cheetahs announced a rash of signings – seven young and up and coming players extending their contracts.
The flyhalves Siya Masuku and Reinhardt Fortuin both extended their contracts.
Varsity Cup centres David Brits and Evardi Boshoff also extended their stay in Bloemfontein.
Outside back Cohen Jasper and wing Daniel Kasende will also continue to play at the Cheetahs for the foreseeable future.
Scrumhalf Brenden de Kock has committed to continue playing at the Cheetahs until the end of June 2023.
