Clean bill for Province

While there were a few players on the sidelines on Monday, there are no new injury concerns for Western Province ahead of the Currie Cup final this weekend.

Lock Eben Etzebeth has a slight cold and missed training along with captain Deon Fourie, centre Marcel Brache and outside back Gio Aplon who all have slight niggles, but none of them are considered doubtful for the clash with the Sharks at Kings Park on Saturday.

Whilst the entire match-day 22 which did duty in the dramatic semifinal victory over the Golden Lions should be available for the final, there will not be any injured players returning to bolster the squad either.

This means that Springbok captain Jean de Villiers will not be available for selection, although he is expected to recover from his hamstring injury in time to lead the Boks on the year-end tour of Europe.

Coach Allister Coetzee said that the focus this week will be to keep the players as grounded and focused as possible as they prepare to secure their first Currie Cup title since 2001.

"We're keeping the week as normal as possible and we're all looking forward to the weekend.

"There has to be a favourite and an underdog (in every game) and we're up against the team that ended top of the log and is playing at home. But we know what we're capable of and that's all that matters to us," he said.
