Dragons keen to lure Pumas' lock to Wales

TRANSFER TALK: The Welsh United Rugby Championship club the Dragons are reportedly interested in signing South African lock Deon Slabbert from Currie Cup outfit Pumas.

The Wales Online reported that Slabbert has been identified as an ideal replacement for Wales international Will Rowlands, who will be joining French Top 14 giants Racing 92.

The URC club was previously linked with a move for Japan-based SA second row JD Schickerling, but it is understood the former Stormers star is too expensive.

However, according to Wales Online, the 23-year-old Slabbert is an affordable target and might be playing his rugby at Rodney Parade next season.

Slabbert has been a consistent performer this season and he was a prominent figure in Jimmy Stonehouse’s side during their epic 2022 campaign when they were crowned Currie Cup champions.

The Pumas are set to host the Cheetahs on Saturday in Nelspruit.
