Griquas eye Province scalp
Griquas coach Hawies Fourie believes his team has the necessary 'momentum' ahead of their next Currie Cup assignment.
The men from Kimberley will travel to Cape Town this coming Saturday to take on the table-topping Western Province at Newlands – as the cross-section phase of the competition kicks in.
Fourie admitted his team will require some "major improvements", but felt his team is up for the challenge.
Their improved confidence comes in the wake of their 31-27 win over the Pumas in Kimberley at the weekend.
"We still aren't happy with our own line-outs," Fourie said in his post-match reaction.
"We gave away too much possession on our own throws.
"We also need to be better in our counter attacks.
"We had a couple of turnovers against the Pumas, but we couldn't capitalise on them."
The momentum gained from their two consecutive victories – against the Pumas this past weekend and the 21-18 triumph over the Sharks the week before – puts them in good stead to spring a surprise against away Province, according to the coach.
"We travelled to Cape Town last year and only came up short by six points,"Fourie said.
"We have some good momentum and we will want to build on that."
Fourie also praised fullback Gouws Prinsloo for another match-winning performance, after contributing 26 points in their win over the Pumas at the weekend.
Prinsloo kicked a total of eight penalties and a conversion to help Griquas to their second win of the season.
"Gouws [Prinsloo] once again showed what a big influence a good kicker has on the outcome of a game. He kicked really well and we are very proud to have him in our setup," Fourie said.
