Griquas lock 'lucky to be alive'

Griquas lock Jonathan Adendorf is lucky to be alive, after being attacked at the weekend.

According to a report in the Bloemfontein-based Volksblad newspaper, Adendorf was stabbed four times and was hospitalised after his lung was perforated.

The newspaper said the burly forward was attacked after having enjoyed a meal with physiotherapist Lance Lemmetjies and their partners at a local establishement – in the wake of Griquas' heartbreaking 19-20 loss to Western Province in a Currie Cup match in Kimberley earlier in the day.

Adendorf and Lemmetjies were separated, after the latter encountered a friend and started chatting. The player proceeded to their vehicle.

It was, according to the report, at this stage that Adendorf was attacked from behind, knocked down and while on the ground he was robbed and stabbed.

The lock is still recovering in hospital and will be sidelined for a few weeks.
