Groom out of Lions clash
Nic Groom will miss his team's trip to Johannesburg this weekend, after suffering a shoulder injury against the Eastern Province Kings last Friday.
Groom came on as a replacement against the Kings but took a knock to his Sternoclavicular Joint (SC Joint – shoulder) in the dying moments of the match.
The scrumhalf is the only casualty that is certain to miss the Lions match, however, star fullback Cheslin Kolbe has a minor injury cloud of his own.
Kolbe hyper-extended his knee but it is too early to say if there is bone-bruising, but it will be given time to settle.
He will run more later in the week and a call will be made on him by Thursday (when the team is announced).
Some good news for Province is that hooker Siyabonga Ntubeni (calf muscle) is back in the selection mix this week and will be considered for selection against the Lions.
Prop Oliver Kebble (ankle) is fit but might be held back – selection-wise – until next weekend against the Griquas.
Meanwhile wing Seabelo Senatla (ankle) will be out for another three weeks.
Province coach Allister Coetzee spoke of his continued aim to keep as consistent as he could in selection.
"Once again, continuity is important for us," he said
"We have some decisions to make this week, after the guys who came in on rotation played so well, but there will be that (one) change at scrumhalf with Groom out.
“The next scrumhalf in line is Godlen Masimla who was next in line during Super Rugby, and ahead of Dylon Frylinck (who is currently with the Pumas), but broke his hand during the first week of the Vodacom Cup.”
