Kings lose Bok prop

The Eastern Province Kings have lost the services of Springbok prop CJ van der Linde at a crucial time heading into the Currie Cup.

The 75-Test Van der Linde had a clause in his contract allowing him to pursue overseas options which he has now made use of. The prop forward is set to join Montpellier and is the latest in a South African invasion at Jake White's club.

The Kings though have been recruiting ahead of their Currie Cup campaign this year and Super Rugby entrance next year in an effort to revamp their team after a poor display in the Vodacom Cup.

Their latest signing is midfielder JP du Plessis who has opted to join the Kings ahead of this years Currie Cup.

The 24-year-old previously had stints with Western Province, the Melbourne Rebels as well as a dabble in Rugby League with the Sydney Roosters.

He played for Montpellier in France in 2013/2014 before returning home to the Cheetahs this year.

More recruitment for the Kings sees Nicolaas van Dyk join the Port Elizabeth outfit from the Cheetahs and Jacques Engelbrecht – who played for the Southern Kings in the 2013 edition of Super Rugby – on loan from the Bulls.

Bulls Prop Basil Short has also committed his future as a King.

The Kings start their Currie Cup campaign at home to the Golden Lions on Saturday, August 8.
