Lion kings named

Captain JC Janse van Rensburg and utility back Lionel Mapoe were the big winners at the annual Golden Lions Rugby Union Players Award ceremony on Wednesday evening.

Van Rensburg was named Player of the Year while Mapoe took home the titles of both Backline Player of the Year and the Lions Man (Players’ Player of the Year) award.

Veteran lock Franco van der Merwe won the Forward Player of the Year award.

Referee’s Award – Rashivenge Fhatuweni

Senior Backline Player of the Year – Lionel Mapoe

Senior Forward Player of the Year – Franco van der Merwe
