Lions hold onto key player amid player exodus
NEWS: The Lions have secured the services of a key front-row member for the next few seasons.
Tighthead prop Johannes Jonker has extended his stay with the Lions until 2021.
The 24-year-old has provided valuable cover at tighthead this season for the Lions and he is a strong scrummager.
Jonker has been with the Lions since 2016 after joining from the Border Bulldogs.
Jonker’s contract extension comes after the Lions revealed earlier this week that 10 players will be leaving the franchise.
The players on the list to leave the Johannesburg side include Springbok duo Ruan Combrink and Lionel Mapoe.
While lock Stephan Lewies has signed for Premiership side Harlequins.
The rest of the names on the list includes wing Sylvian Mahuza, hooker Robbie Coetzee, prop Danie Mienie, loose forward Robert Kruger and centre pair Harold Vorster and Franco Naude.
Johannes Jonker has committed to Lions Rugby until 2021. The prop represented the Joburg outfit in Vodacom Super Rugby and the DirectAxis Currie Cup since 2016.#LionsPride pic.twitter.com/4JyXs0bu86
