Long wait for Kolbe's day in court

Western Province flyer Cheslin Kolbe will only appear in court on an alleged drunk-driving charge in August next year after being stopped at a road block.

Kolbe's agent Wallis Roux, who will also represent him in the matter, confirmed to this website that the SA Under-20 star was pulled over at a routine road block on the weekend.

Western Province issued a statement on Monday indicating that one of their players had been charged, but did not give any other details apart from the fact that they will "support the player, who has an exemplary disciplinary record to date, through its employee assistance programme."

Although he has not yet appeared in court, Kolbe was named in media reports on Tuesday, much to Roux's irritation.

"He hasn't appeared in court so they are not supposed to disclose his identity but unfortunately it is now out in the public domain," he said.

Roux added that the facts of the matter are simple, and explained that there is nothing to do now but await the test results.

"The real facts are that it was just a routine road block, he got stopped and they decided to test him and we are waiting for the results.

"It is not a case that he couldn't drive properly. It was a simple routine block and there was a suspicion that his blood-alcohol content may exceed the statutory limit and as a result the police subjected him to the testing.

"It looks like it is going to be a long wait, hopefully by the time we get the results Province will have the Currie Cup again," he quipped.
