Mapoe captain as Lions change
Springbok call-ups and late injuries have forced Golden Lions coach Johan Ackermann into three changes for their game against the Eastern Province Kings in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
Captain Warren Whiteley has been drafted into the Springbok squad, replacing Willem Alberts – who will not tour with South Africa to Australasia.
This has allowed last week's vice-captain, Lionel Mapoe, to take over the captaincy role at the Johannesburg-based outfit.
Willie Britz moves up from the bench to replace Whiteley at No.8, with Martin Muller to provide cover off the bench.
Unfortunately hooker Robbie Coetzee has also been withdrawn from the matchday squad, after suffering from a neck spasm.
He will be replaced by Willie Wepener on the bench.
Golden Lions – revised: 15 Ruan Combrinck, 14 Lionel Mapoe (captain), 13 Nicolaas Hanekom, 12 Alwyn Hollenbach, 11 Courtnall Skosan, 10 Andries Coetzee, 9 Ross Cronje, 8 Willie Britz, 7 Warwick Tecklenburg, 6 Jaco Kriel, 5 Franco Mostert, 4 Luvuyiso Lusaseni, 3 Ruan Dreyer, 2 Armand van der Merwe, 1 Schalk van der Merwe.
