Province lose Masimla and Viljoen
Western Province assistant coach Russell Winter confirmed on Monday that the 24-year-old injured his ankle badly in the 31-23 win over the Pumas and will be out of action for "a couple of weeks".
The Cape side will probably also be without centre EW Viljoen for their crunch match against Griquas in Kimberley on Friday. Viljoen injured his knee in that same game at Newlands on Saturday and he could face a race against time to be fit for the play-offs should Province make it that far.
Meanwhile, Jano Vermaak has recovered from his hip-pointer injury and will be available for the Griquas match. With Masimla out for a lengthy period, Vermaak's return is a timely one for Province in the run in to the play-offs.
JD Schickerling could also make a return to the playing field. The lock has been out with a shoulder injury and will be monitored this week.
Western Province are currently fifth on the Currie Cup standings and are one point behind Griquas, who are in fourth.
After their match against Griquas, Province will finish the league phase against Boland at Newlands next weekend.
