Sharks coach: 'We were poor'
REACTION: Sharks head coach Etienne Fynn says his team were not sharp enough in their Currie Cup Round 10 clash against the Pumas in Durban on Friday.
The Pumas defeated the hosts 20-10 to maintain their push for a Carling Currie Cup play-off spot.
The Sharks are still in third position in the Currie Cup standings, but they have a tough task ahead of them as they face the undefeated Cheetahs in Bloemfontein next weekend.
“The Pumas totally deserve their win,” said Fynn.
“We were poor and we certainly didn’t deserve to win this game.
“We need to work on all aspects of our play – essentially sticking to the plan but more importantly when you get an opportunity to score, take advantage of it. Conversely, when they get into our half, we got to close their opportunities down.
“Congratulations to the Pumas. As a group, we got to own this loss and move forward positively on Monday because we have the Free State Cheetahs next Saturday and we all know what a good side they are.”
Fynn said they will not allow this loss to derail their Currie Cup campaign.
“The season is far from over,” he added.
“After a long break, I did expect some rustiness and obviously not that extent of rustiness.
“Our sharpness was lacking.
“We are looking forward to correcting our mistakes and showing all our supporters a very different performance next Saturday.”
