Spies signs Bulls extension
Bulls captain Pierre Spies has oficially extended his contract with the Pretoria franchise, and will remain at Loftus Versveld until Novermber 2015.
As reported by this website last week, the Springbok No.8 has rejected a few lucrative offers in France and on Tuesday signed a three-year contract extension which he said was an easy decision.
"The Blue Bulls are my rugby home and also the environment in which I grew up. It will be an honour to again call it my rugby home for the next three years. I hope I can help write a memorable and successful part of the Bulls history during this time," he said.
Blue Bulls CEO Barend van Graan also welcomed the news.
"Pierre is a second generation Bulls player and has already left a legacy with us. To have Pierre around for the next three years, a period in which we aim to re-enforce ourselves as a team of excellence, is wonderful news and I am pretty sure our supporters will be very happy about this," he said.
Bulls coach Frans Ludeke also expressed his satisfaction that the Loftus leader is staying in Pretoria.
"Pierre is a senior player and a leader who will have to carry a lot of responsibility in our vision and aim to once again become a title-winning team next season and beyond. I could not have asked for a better role model, person or player to help us become champions again," he said.
Spies has played in 50 tests for the Springboks thus far in his career, which includes seven tries. He has played 89 times for the Bulls in Super Rugby and scored 120 points. Spies has made 17 appearances for the Blue Bulls and has scored 20 points.
