Team of the Week: Blue and white hoops

READERS’ VIEW: The votes have been counted and the readers’ Currie Cup Team of the Week for Round Six has been revealed.

Western Province were the big winners this week with their dramatic 31-29 victor over the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

In Saturday’s other games, the Lions edged the Pumas 33-25 in Nelspruit and the Sharks thumped Griquas 47-19 in Durban.

WP lead the way with seven players in this week’s XV. The Sharks are the next best represented with four players in the team.

The Cheetahs and the Lions have two players each in the team this week.

In the backline, Lions Tiaan Swanepoel was the popular choice for fullback this week with 45.2 percent of the vote. Werner Kok (36.6 percent) and Rosko Specman (47.8 percent) make up the back three this week.

In the midfield, Frans Steyn was the star of the show with 78.8 percent of the vote for the inside centre position. Lukhanyo Am is the outside centre this week with 35.3 percent of the vote.

Curwin Bosch (32.7 percent) pipped Tim Swiel (32.1 percent) for the flyhalf spot, while Herschel Jantjies was the popular choice for the scrumhalf position with 32.3 percent of the vote

The pack is dominated by Western Province players.

Prop Frans Malherbe (70.7 percent), Bongi Mbonambi (57.8 percent), Steven Kitshoff (70.3 percent) once again make up the front row after winning their positions

Marvin Orie (28.9 percent) edged the vote for the No.5 lock position, and he is joined in the second row by JD Schickerling who got 44.8 percent of the vote for the No.4 lock.

Jaco Coetzee gets the No.6 jersey with 44.2 percent of the vote and he is joined in the back row by Johan du Toit (27.7 percent for the No.7 position)) and Sikhumbuzo Notshe (33.5 percent for the No.8 position).
