WP Rugby steps closer to new equity deal
NEWS: The Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) is on the brink of finding an equity partner, SA Rugby announced on Friday.
The WPRFU has been under administration since October 2021 when SARU took control of the Union.
SA Rugby revealed that a formal offer has been made to WP Rugby.
The statement read: “A formal offer from a preferred bidder has been received by the board of WP Professional Rugby (Pty) Ltd and has been presented to the finance committee of SARU.
“That committee, in the first instance, will make a recommendation to the Executive Council (Exco) of SARU, once it has completed consultations with the bidder.
“Once Exco has reviewed the offer, it will be presented to the General Council of WPRFU, which body has the final verdict on any such agreement.”
Last month, the SARU announced the appointment of experienced sport and government executive Max Fuzani as the new administrator of the WPRFU .
Fuzani succeded Rian Oberholzer, who was appointed interim CEO at SARU in March, having held the position of administrator at WPRFU since October 2021.
