Sharks riding a wave of confidence

The Sharks picked up bonus-point wins against the Pumas, Griquas and Boland Cavaliers and they are currently sitting at the top of the Currie Cup standings, one point ahead of the Free State Cheetahs.

However, the Sharks are entering a tough phase of their campaign now, starting with their match against the Bulls.

"At the moment the Currie Cup is still very open, but I think we got a good chance," said Sharks centre Andre Esterhuizen.

"I think these three matches that we won with a bonus point has given us a lot of confidence.

"The Bulls are going to be a hard physical challenge, but we take each week as it comes and we prepare for a new challenge.

"It is going to be a massive game, luckily we are playing here at Kings Park. It is nice to play in front of our home crowd. I think we can pull it through if we just stick to the basics and play our own brand of rugby."

Esterhuizen said the team is enjoying their rugby under the tutelage of new head coach Robert du Preez.

"The coaching is great. They [coaching team] are encouraging us to play more running rugby.

"We can still improve on a few stuff like unforced errors, but it is basics. The environment is good and we are enjoying it," Esterhuizen added.

Esterhuizen is also enjoying his partnership with Lukanhyo Am in the Sharks midfield. Am has had a prominent role in the Sharks team since the departure of Paul Jordaan.

"Lukanhyo and I only played two games together now, but we have been enjoying it and I think we understand each other," said Esterhuizen.
