VIDEO: 'He is a great Stormer'

SPOTLIGHT: Siya Kolisi’s playing future is making headlines once again.

On Friday, RugbyPass reported that the Springbok captain is in negotiations with Racing 92 about an early release from his contract.

Kolisi joined the Sharks from the Stormers in 2021. He left Durban into a five-year contract to join Racing, where he played 18 times last season.

Friday’s report has linked Kolisi with a return to Durban, but he also has a long history with Cape Town and the Stormers – a team he represented for a decade.

During a press conference ahead of Western Province’s Round Five Currie Cup clash against the Griffons, assistant coach Dawie Snyman was asked if the Stormers were interested in getting him back if the opportunity presented itself.

“It’s probably just information that is out there and I am not sure what the scenario is,” said Snyman.

“It is probably a bit above my decision-making.”

When pressed further, Snyman added: “Yes, Siya is a great player, he is a great captain and he is a great Stormer.

“If he is open to coming back to the Stormers then we will communicate with him, but like I said, there are quite a few decisions that need to be made for that.”

Meanwhile, Snyman has provided an update on Steven Kitshoff, who has been declared fit by the Springbok medical team. However, he still needs game time.

“We are in contact with the medical staff from the Springboks to make sure that his return to play is spot on,” said Snyman.

“He needs to play a bit of rugby. He hasn’t played in a while, so it will be great to have him on the field, especially for Western Province.

“It’s where he started, so it will be in the plans.

“We will communicate with their [Springboks] medical staff on what he needs.”
