Another bleak update on Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu
IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Springbok star Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu will not return to the field of play anytime soon after Stormers assistant coach Rito Hlungwani confirmed he had undergone surgery.
The World Rugby Breakthrough Player of the Year nominee returned to action on December 28, 2024 during the Stormers’ 24-20 win over Sharks in the United Rugby Championship.
However, after taking a blow to the chest, the 22-year-old left the field in the 37th minute – his third injury of the season.
In the post-match media briefing, Stormers Director of Rugby John Dobson admitted the 22-year-old suffered an injury and that they had taken a ‘risk’ to play him in the match.
And that is indeed true as Stormers assistant coach Rito Hlungwani predicted a long injury lay-off for the star ahead of the team’s Champions Cup match against Sale Sharks at the Cape Town Stadium.
“I don’t have an accurate return to play at the moment,” Hlungwani said when asked about the star’s latest injury setback.
“He had to go for a little procedure but he will certainly not return in the next week or two.”
The forwards guru did not confirm the nature of the injury.
In contrast, Hlungwani revealed some good news in regards to Springbok forward Ben-Jason Dixon.
“BJ is not injured,” the forwards coach said.
“When we finished the URC he was one the guys that went straight to the Springboks, so did not have his break. He is having his compulsory break.
“He is one of those tough players and is never easy not to have him in the team.”
The Stormers will take on Sale Sharks on Saturday at the Cape Town Stadium in Round Three of the Champions Cup.
