Horne hat-trick sinks Sale Sharks
MATCH REPORT: Scrumhalf George Horne scored a hat-trick of tries as Glasgow Warriors thumped Sale Sharks 38-19 in their Champions Cup clash at Scotstoun Stadium on Saturday.
It was just the start that Glasgow Warriors would have been dreaming of before the tie, with Horne forcing it into touch after just two minutes against the Sale Sharks.
Horne was back at it 10 minutes later for his double before Huw Jones penned his name on the scoresheet just after the 20-minute mark.
With moments to go before the half-time whistle, Horne completed his Champions Cup hat-trick – something that will live long in the memory.
It was 33-12 at the break.
The Scottish side will be very happy with their efforts in the first 40 minutes, as they set the tone for the following period.
A Joe Carpenter try offered hope for the visitors but the 33-17 gap proved too large to close away to an in-form Glasgow.
Just four minutes later, the Mancunian side’s efforts had been chalked off after Scott Cummings scored for the hosts’ sixth of the evening to make it 38-19.
It was a statement victory for the Warriors who sit pretty at the top of Pool Four ahead of Matchday Two.
Next up for them is a trip to the south of France to face fellow opening day winners RC Toulon.
As for Sale, a home tie against Racing 92 awaits next weekend.
