Armitage: Laporte should be happier
Toulon may not have racked up 60 points like last weekend against Ulster, but loose forward Steffon Armitage believes his coach should be happier with their 26-3 win over Scarlets.
Director of Rugby Bernard Laporte declared last week that he was not impressed with his teams record 60 points and eight tries against Ulster and even though Armitage also believes there is still room for improvement, he is hoping the coach will be pleased this week.
"We got the upper hand at the scrum in the first half and we really fronted up," he said.
"The Scarlets wanted to play and we are glad to have come away with a win.
"Bernard Laporte is going to be a bit pleased with that performance but he will still have something to pick on in the video session on Monday.
"There are certainly some things we still need to work on, but that can only make us better in the next round."
Toulon still have an historic title treble in their sights – but Man-of-the-Match Armitage says feet are staying firmly on the ground despite the champions being guaranteed a home quarterfinal.
No club has won three elite European titles on the trot but the 2013 and 2014 winners are in the hunt after their 26-3, Pool Thee win over Scarlets earned them a winning end to another table-topping campaign.
"We want to be a club who creates an amazing history for Toulon," said the England loose forward.
"But we have to take every game as it comes because everyone wants to beat the champions."
