Big blow as holders La Rochelle's prop cops four-week ban

DISCIPLINARY NEWS: La Rochelle prop Georges-Henri Colombe has been banned for four weeks ban for dangerous play at a ruck during last weekend’s Champions Cup last 16 win, tournament organisers European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) announced on Wednesday.

Colombe, 24, was shown a yellow card for a clear-out on Gloucester’s Ruan Ackermann on Saturday and will miss this weekend’s quarter-final with three-time winner Saracens.

He will also be sidelined for a potential semifinal if the holders win Sunday’s last-eight tie and at least two Top 14 fixtures.

Montpellier’s England No. 8 Zach Mercer was cleared by the EPCR’s independent disciplinary hearing after being shown a red card in Sunday’s loss at Exeter.

Mercer was dismissed for a dangerous tackle on the Chiefs’ Wales loose forward Christ Tshiunza.
