Biggar baffled by crazy game

Dan Biggar says the Ospreys 'won't feel sorry for themselves' despite falling to their second defeat 18-15 in Pool Five and facing elimination from the Champions Cup.

A week after clawing their way back into the game at the Liberty Stadium against Racing Metro and snatching a 19-19 draw, the Welsh region almost went one better after letting their hosts race into a 15-0 lead.

But in the end they were beaten by three points and now face an uphill struggle to finish in the top two in the Pool.

"We're probably out of it now, but we can't afford to feel sorry for ourselves," said Biggar.

"This young group of players needs to learn from these experiences.

"I'm not sure how to sum up that game – it was crazy. With all the yellow cards, length of the field breaks by both sides, it all got a bit mad.

"I think we actually edged the game. It was a game of two halves – they were the better side in the first and we had the second.

But we're hugely disappointed because of the tries that they scored and the fact we didn't take our chances. Racing have a huge pack, we gave them too many turn-overs and the yellow card cost us as well."

Second half tries from Biggar's Welsh international scrumhalf partner Rhys Webb and wing Eli Walker gave the Ospreys a shot in the final 10 minutes of notching a rare win on French soil.

But Racing's defence held firm and a last gasp penalty made the game safe for them.

The Ospreys now face a home clash with Pool leaders Northampton Saints at the Liberty Stadium in Round Five before a trip to Benetton Treviso in the final round next month,

"What is also disappointing is that we created a lot of chances, but didn't finish off enough of them. Some of the rugby we played was as good as we have put together all season," said Biggar.

"But if you don't take your opportunities in this completion you are unlikely to get a result. We showed a huge amount of effort from a very young side and we are very proud of that – sometimes you need a little bit more.

"Racing have got some big guys and a lot of experience they can bring off the bench. I guess that's what comes from having that amount of money to spend."
