Challenge Cup: Dragons pair earn praise
Scrumhalf Pretorius kicked off a man of the match display with a stunning solo try.
And flyhalf Jones added 17 points, including a second-half try, that finally sank Pau at Rodney Parade to stay top of Pool Three.
"Everything we had planned for during the week went out of the window with the wet weather that could have made things a lottery," assistant coach Shaun Connor said.
"But the way out half-backs controlled the game was excellent.
"Sarel was excellent in the first half with his kicking and snipping runs behind a scrum that struggled at times.
"Dorian then kicked so effectively in the second half and took his try well.
"He is still a young outside-half who is going to make mistakes but he doesn't dwell on things and proved he has the temperament for this level.
"It was always going to be difficult in those conditions. If you had said we would win 22-0 at the start of the day we would have bitten your hand off and it's still only three tries conceded at Rodney Parade this season.
"We seem to keep our best performance for Rodney Parade and that's five wins from six for us now at home.
Director of Rugby Lyn Jones will also have been delighted at keeping a clean sheet against French opposition for the first time.
And Dragons are also hopeful a knee injury to Wales wing Tom Prydie is not as bad as first feared.
Conor said: "At first it looked bad and we feared the worse but we are hoping that it may not be as serious as it looked.
"He is on crutches as a precaution but we will have to wait. It would be a real shame if he is misses many games as he has just returned from a niggle and was playing well."
