Clermont desperate to back-up triumph
Clermont's 28-10 triumph at Stade Chaban-Delmas moved them two points clear of the Ospreys at the top of Pool Two to set up a massive match at the Liberty Stadium. The Welsh region picked up two losing bonus points when they went to France.
"It was a tough game and it was very important for us to win it. We knew it was going to be a head-on match and we are pleased with the victory," Azema told EPC Rugby.
"My only regret is that in the final 15 minutes we didn't aim for the bonus-point try. But four points in Bordeaux is a good performance.
"We know we've got another hard game against the Ospreys next week and if we don't win that one it means this result will have been for nothing."
Bordeaux's third defeat in the pool means their hopes of reaching the last eight have faded and their second red card of the campaign, to replacement lock Julien Le Devedec, caused them huge problems. Worse still, they were reduced to 13 men for 10 minutes in the second half when Franciso Gomes Kodela was sent to the sin-bin.
"Clermont were better than us and it became all the more difficult after the red card. We made some defensive mistakes and it is always disappointing to lose at home," said former French prop Jean-Baptiste Poux.
"They stretched us and we got stupidly upset at times. When it was 13 v 15 it became mission impossible for us."
