Franco Smith's big warning ahead of quarterfinal against Lions
REACTION: Glasgow head coach Franco Smith believes his team can be a lot more clinical despite their 73-33 win over the Dragons in their Challenge Cup Round of 16 clash.
Glasgow scored a whopping 11 tries in the win, which helped them earn a quarterfinal at home against the Lions next weekend.
Cardiff were also reduced to 14 men after 32 minutes when Aki Seiuli received a red card
The Lions reached the last eight with a 51-28 win over Racing 92, despite playing a large chunk of the game with 14 men after Emmanuel Tshituka received a red card.
“There are a lot of things we can do much better, but for tonight [Saturday] we must take the joy out of the win,” said Smith.
“There was a conversation in the changing room – I don’t want to say we are disappointed, but we are not completely happy with how it went.
“That’s the group – not me. The fact that we’ve allowed them to score three tries with only 14 players on the field hurts.”
Smith added: “The fact they scored any points hurts for us because it’s our objective to be as good as we can be on both sides of the ball
“There is a lot of joy we must take, but it is not our objective to chase records.
“If it happens, compliments to the players and coaches. But our objective is to be the best we can be. We took some good strides but we can still be a lot more clinical.”
The one concern for Smith heading into that match with the Lions is the knee injury Sione Vailanu (flank) sustained in Saturday’s match.
“We’ll assess it fully during the week,” said Smith. “He came down hard on his knee.”
