Hard lessons for Bath

Bath boss Mike Ford admits Saturday's opening European Cup battering by Glasgow Warriors was tough to take.

Ford saw his side beaten 37-10 by the PRO12 high flyers, with the hosts scoring five tries at a sunny Scotstoun.

Bath could only manage a single score themselves as Jonathan Joseph pounced on an error from Glasgow's Stuart Hogg in a fixture that finished with a far bigger scoreline than most pundits predicted.

Ford fielded a side showing numerous changes from the domestic defeat to Wasps but it was somewhat of a rude awakening north of the border nonetheless.

"It is a lesson learnt in a tough European tie," said Ford. "It was disappointing.

"We are disappointed with the tries that we let in and we let the game get away from us. We didn't finish off the breaks that we had and then they scored a couple of quick tries.

"When that happens, all of a sudden you are on the wrong end of a poor scoreline. We will learn from it, though. We are a young side."

Bath will have to learn quickly as they welcome the European Cup's most successful side to The Rec next weekend when four-times continental kings Toulouse are in town.
