Jordan's ban hands Franco Smith a Challenge Cup Final headache
DISCIPLINARY NEWS: Glasgow Warriors’ flyhalf Tom Jordan will miss his team’s European Challenge Cup Final against Toulon.
The 24-year-old flyhalf was handed a red card during the United Rugby Championship quarterfinal defeat to Munster last weekend and has been handed a five-week suspension.
Referee Andrea Piardi deemed that Jordan’s tackle on Munster scrumhalf Connor Murray in the 25th minute was high and dangerous and consequently handed him a straight red card.
The player has been judged to contravene Law 9.13 – A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously. Dangerous tackling includes but is not limited to, tackling or attempting to tackle an opponent above the line of the shoulders even if the tackle starts below the line of the shoulders.
Jordan was facing a maximum of a 10-week suspension. However, it was reduced to five weeks due to his ‘unblemished disciplinary, timely guilty plea and apology to Munster scrumhalf.”
Should the player complete the World Rugby Coaching Intervention Programme then the sanction will be reduced by one week.
