Pride on the line for Edinburgh

Edinburgh defence coach Billy McGinty believes a win from this Sunday's Murrayfield clash with two-time champions Munster can help sooth the club's Euro woes.

Twelve months ago they were en route to becoming the first Scottish team to qualify for the tournament's semifinals but they are without a win this time round and anxious to end their home programme on a high.

That losing run in the 18th season of European club rugby's premier competition includes a 33-0 defeat at Thomond Park in Round Two, and now there is only pride to play for.

"While it would have been a huge ask to repeat that from a very tough group, we see this match as a way of getting some of the credit back into Edinburgh Rugby," said McGinty.

"Every time the Heineken Cup comes around it freshens things up and gives everyone a little bit of excitement and spark, so the players are really looking forward to the match on Sunday.

"Munster will be another huge contest and will still fancy their chances of making the quarterfinal," he said.

McGinty understands the size of the task in front of his side, but expects them to play with passion in front of their home crowd this weekend.

"They've actually got better as the season has gone on, but we believe we're capable of beating them, of really mixing it up in this group and repaying the fans for their support this season.

"The fans have been fantastic. We spoke about it in the coaches' box and in the changing room after the Leinster game, and again in training this week.

"They've had some tough nights this season so we're desperate to repay their support with a good match and, importantly, a win," he added.
