Scarlets fined for ineligible player

The misconduct complaint for Scarlets player, Jacob Cowley, was in their matchday squad in contravention of the tournament rules of the 2015/16 European Rugby Champions Cup. The player did not enter the field of play at any point during the match at Stade Yves-du-Manoir.

The independent Disciplinary Committee consisting of Antony Davies (England), Chairman, Jeremy Summers (England) and Roddy Dunlop (Scotland) considered submissions from Scarlets and from the EPCR Disciplinary Officer, Liam McTiernan.

The Committee accepted that Cowley was named by Scarlets in error as a replacement in their matchday squad for the Round Five game which Racing 92 won 64-14. However, it was determined that Scarlets had breached the European Rugby Champions Cup Tournament Rules by naming a player who had not been registered with EPCR and was therefore ineligible.

The suspended fine will become payable if Scarlets are found to have committed any further breaches of the rules of EPCR's tournaments between 18 February 2016 and 31 May 2018.
