STAT ATTACK: What price on a South Africa win in Europe?
EURO SPOTLIGHT: South African teams are in their second season at Europe’s top table – the Champions Cup. What is the price on either the Bulls or Stormers going all the way.
The next two weekends will see the final rounds of league action, before the play-offs.
The four highest-ranked teams in each pool will qualify for the Round of 16 and the teams ranked fifth in each of the pools will qualify for the Round of 16 of the Challenge Cup (second division).
The data partner of European Professional Club Rugby, Oval Insights, put together a definitive list of every team’s chance of making it to the Round of 16, the most likely position they will finish in and even their chances of winning the coveted Champions Cup title.
At this stage, the statistics show that Leinster is the most likely team to win the Champions Cup, with a 19 percent chance.
Stade Toulousain is the second most likely with a 13 percent chance, while Northampton Saints are the best-placed Premiership team to win with a 6 percent hope.
There is plenty still to play for, with even Connacht – the team with the lowest chance of making the Round of 16 – still having a 14 percent chance of making it.
On current predictions, holders Stade Rochelais will not make the knockout stage, instead qualifying for the EPCR Challenge Cup.
Four Top 14 teams will make the knockout stage, while seven Premiership teams and five from the United Rugby Championship will join them.
The Bulls and Stormers (both two percent) are not given much of a chance.
