'They were fractures': Sharks suffer big injury blows
INJURY UPDATE: Sharks head coach John Plumtree provided an update on Lukhanyo Am after the centre was left out of his matchday squad for Saturday’s Champions Cup clash against Exeter Chiefs in Durban.
The 31-year-old suffered a fracture in his forearm in last weekend’s United Rugby Championship win over the Stormers.
Lock Gerbrandt Grobler was the other major casualty as he had an operation on his foot. His lay-off we be substantially longer.
The story continues below…
“We didn’t have a great week last week and we picked up some injuries and they weren’t just soft tissue ones,” Plumtree told @rugby365com.
“They were actually fractures, so it’s bad news to lose Gerbrandt for that lengthy lay-off. I am not sure how long yet.
“Lukhanyo is not quite as bad and we will have him back potentially after Christmas, but it is certainly a niggly week from an injury perspective.”
On Am’s injury, Plumtree added: “He has got a fracture in his forearm.
“It’s a real small fracture but it’s serious enough to keep him out for a few weeks until it’s healed, but no operation is needed.
“Gerbrand Grobler has had an operation and his injury is potentially a longer period.”
