DISCIPLINARY NEWS: Toulon have lodged an appeal to EPCR ruling which imposes a five-match points deduction when competing in the tournament.

Toulon were handed the fine in July by an independent Disciplinary Committee following their president Mourad Boudjellal’s public outburst related to Toulon skipper Mathieu Bastareaud’s ban for a homophobic slur.

The President blasted the EPCR for puritan hypocrisy and stated: “What I’m worried about is the Mormon side of the EPCR with its Welsh and Irish [administrators].

“They’re people who sell morality even though they don’t possess any.

“The same who have ministers who get whipped in private but portray themselves as ‘clean’ in public,”

During the hearing in July, the independent Disciplinary Committee upheld a misconduct complaint against Toulon in that the club had overall responsibility for the actions of its President.

Aside from the five-point deduction, Toulon were also ordered to pay costs and could be suspended for three seasons for any similar offending or misconduct by the club or any of its representatives in any rugby jurisdiction.

Boudjellal was  fined €75,000 with a further €25,000 fine suspended for three years for any similar offending or misconduct in any rugby jurisdiction.

The outspoken president has not appealed the decision.

According to the statement released by EPCR: “Toulon’s appeal hearing will take place in London on (Tuesday, September 25 by an independent Appeal Committee consisting of Sir James Dingemans (England), Chairman, Philippe Cavalieros (France) and Andrea Caranci (Italy),”
