VIDEO: How Lions winger will get back into the Green and Gold club
VIDEO: Edwill van der Merwe has big plans for 2025 and returning to the Green and Gold is foremost in his plans for the year.
The Lions head out to France on Tuesday where they will come face-to-face with the top team in their EPCR Challenge Cup pool, Montpellier.
The French side is top of the table in Pool Two with two wins from two on nine points.
The Lions are currently fourth on five points after one victory and one loss.
Van der Merwe shared his one and only New Year’s resolution during a media briefing on Tuesday and indicated his clear intent to get back into the Springbok setup.
The Springbok wing was a revelation for the Lions in the last edition of the United Rugby Championship.
His efforts earned him a debut for the Springboks in June, where he scored a superb solo try and was named Man of the Match.
He suffered an ankle injury in the Currie Cup in July and returned to action in early October.

Now he has his sights firmly set on working his way back into the Springbok fold.
“On the field, I want to get back into the Bok group. I would love to play more games for the Springboks,” Van der Merwe stated when asked what his resolutions for 2025 were.
“That is where my focus is and I know the only way I am going to achieve that, is to constantly play well for the Lions, to be a good team man.
“So that is my New Year’s resolution,” Van der Merwe said with a smile.
