VIDEO: The Bulls versus Edinburgh clash in their Challenge Cup quarterfinal on Saturday is not about Jake White and Sean Everitt, instead it is all about how the teams pitch up on match-day.
That is how the Bulls’ Director of Rugby, White, summarised the rivalry between himself and Edinburgh’s coach Everitt, a coach he has known and worked with for quite a number of years.
Much hype has been made around the two Saffa coaches coming up against each other in the quarterfinal. But for White, it’s all about the teams and how they perform on the day.
The fact that they know each other well, has nothing to do with the game on Saturday, White exclaimed on Friday.
White’s Bulls are making their maiden Challenge Cup quarterfinal appearance. Their Champions Cup campaign ended in three pool defeats, and the Edinburgh playoff represents an opportunity for redemption.
Edinburgh, sitting eighth in the URC with 36 points, has been more consistent in Europe, topping their Challenge Cup pool with three wins.

But White says he has been around long enough not to make it about the coaches, adding casually: “I’ll probably see Sean for dinner tonight [Friday] as well. There’s nothing about me and him, it’s not about anyone out-thinking anyone.”
“I’ve been around too long to worry about other coaches, and [competitiveness between] coaches. It’s got nothing to do what coaches do, it’s about how the teams play,” he said.
“I know Sean and he knows me and that means absolutely nothing.”
“The reason for them playing at home is they finished higher on the log than we did in the Challenge Cup.”
“It’s about how the team plays and whether the teams are good enough tomorrow.”

Tomorrow we defend our home and our city for a place in the last four of Europe – let’s make it a day to remember in the capital.
