Bay lock gets Plenty for stamping

Bay of Plenty lock Culum Retallick has been suspended for two weeks and West Coast prop Blair Mirfin for a similar period, following hearings before New Zealand Rugby Union judicial officer Bruce Squire in Wellington on Wednesday.

Retallick was cited by Citing Commissioner Jim Meates for stamping on Southland prop Chris King during his team’s NPC match in Mt Maunganui last Thursday.

Bay of Plenty won the game 33-22.

At the hearing Retallick denied the charge, but after viewing a video tape of the incident and hearing evidence Squire found the charge proved.

Retallick was suspended for two weeks up to, and including, Wednesday November 3.

Retallick was represented by Bay of Plenty Rugby Union official Paul Feeney.

* Meanwhile, Mirfin also appeared before Squire via teleconference after receiving his third yellow card in the Heartland Championship this season.

After hearing from Mirfin and West Coast Rugby Union Chief Executive Mike Connors, Squire decided the repeated offending required a suspension from all rugby for a period of two weeks, effective from the start of the 2011 West Coast club competition.
