Otago coach heads 'home'
Otago coach Phil Mooney will return to Australia at the end of his two-year contract in November to take up a role with the Wests Club in Brisbane.
Mooney will leave knowing that he has developed a crop of young players who will contribute to the Otago team for years to come.
“The development of young local players into the Otago team has been an important part of my coaching strategy over the past couple of seasons and it’s great to know that we have a group of players coming through that will mature into quality first class players,” commented Mooney.
“I would like to thank the Otago rugby community, ORFU staff and players for all their support over the past two seasons.” added Mooney.
Wayne Graham, ORFU Chairman, wished Mooney well for his future and noted Phil’s contribution to Otago Rugby over the past two years.
“Phil has worked hard with the Otago team over the past two seasons and I would like to thank him on behalf of the Union for his contribution to the development of rugby within the province.
“Phil is well respected in the local rugby community and he always made himself available to assist at all levels’ commented Graham.
“The appointment process for Phil’s replacement will be discussed at the next ORFU board meeting’ added Graham.”
