Ackermann and son cleared on assault charges

The South African father-and-son duo were implicated in a nightclub confrontation which left a man with facial injuries back in December 2017.

The alleged incident took place hours after Gloucester's 69-12 European Challenge Cup victory over Italian side Zebre at Kingsholm.

A woman called Christina Woods made allegations via social media, while relatives of the injured man claimed that he was 'beaten up' and released pictures showing several cuts and grazes on his face and head.Ackermann and son cleared on assault charges

The local Police opened an investigating report of the incident on December 17.  

However, since further investigation police have found no evidence linking the pair to the assault – thus the pair will face no further police action.

Gloucester Rugby confirmed the new developments via a statement, which reads: "A police investigation into a recent incident involving Johan and Ruan Ackermann has confirmed that no further action will be taken.

"Having fully supported Johan and Ruan throughout this process, the Club is delighted with the outcome of the investigation.

"Today's news allows everyone involved to move on and to focus on an important few weeks on the pitch in the run into the end of the season,"

The statement further concluded that: "Gloucester Rugby will be making no further comment on the matter,"
