The spin-off of this argufy is that as many as 10 players could exit the club.

The newspaper reports that Ackermann could raid their player resources – with his son Ruan and World Cup-winning Springbok Franco Mostert reported to be high on his wishlist.

One player looks set to head back to South Africa, with Springbok prop Ruan Dreyer reportedly ready to return to Johannesburg.

He will find a familiar face at Ellis Park, as fellow Bok and former Gloucester teammate Jaco Kriel arrived back at Ellis Park in February.

Kriel, 30, has 11 Test caps for the Boks – to go with his more than 100 outings for the Lions (Super Rugby and Currie Cup).
