Cruse signs new contract with Wasps
Since arriving from London Irish ahead of the 2016/17 season, the 28-year-old hooker has become a key part of the Wasps squad, already featuring in seven out of the club’s 11 games so far this season.
With 11 appearances last year, in his first season with the club, Cruse has quickly made himself a dependable fixture in the squad, with his dynamism around the park and reliability at the set piece.
Cruse previously represented Stockport, Sale Sharks, Macclesfield, Rotherham Titans and London Irish, before linking back up with his former Rotherham Head Coach, now Wasps’ Backs Coach, Lee Blackett, in black and gold last season.
Speaking about the contract extension, Wasps’ Director of Rugby Dai Young said: "Tom arrived here with a lot of promise. We were impressed with what he’d done at Rotherham Titans and London Irish and we felt he could kick on. Every opportunity he’s played for us, he’s done himself justice. He’s fitted into the attacking style we want to play really well, he’s very mobile, has great hands and a great game-awareness.
"He’s not the biggest of guys but he plays well above his weight, he’s more than happy to throw his weight into some big defence and set-piece-wise he’s really good. With Tom, Ashley Johnson, Tommy Taylor and a couple of the youngsters coming up behind them, I think hooker is a strong position for us,"
Cruse added: "When I was offered the option to extend my contract here at Wasps, it was an easy decision to make. My family and I have settled in really well since arriving a couple of seasons ago and we have been welcomed brilliantly by everyone at the club.
"I’m loving playing alongside the quality players we have in our squad and feel my game is developing well here at Wasps. It’s exciting to see the potential of the squad and we are all working hard to improve and to try to fulfil that potential,"
