Commenting on the news, Evans said: "I have had the opportunity to give everything as a player to Harlequins, and now I am grateful to be able to do the same as a coach.

"My role now is to make the players and the team better. We have a fantastic group of players and a brilliant coaching group. I am really looking forward to working hard and pushing on from last season to be the best we can be."

Following a 17-year professional career, Evans retired at the conclusion of the 2016/17 season as Harlequins' all-time record point scorer, with 2 249 points from 208 senior appearances.

Joining Harlequins in 2008 he came to be widely regarded as one of the best playmakers in the game and the best overseas signing.

The All Black quickly became an influential player and helped Harlequins to European and domestic titles in 2011 and 2012.

Over the last two years, he has been coaching Wimbledon RFC and oversaw their promotion last season to National 2.

On confirming the news Harlequins Director of Rugby John Kingston, said: "I am delighted that Nick has agreed the offer to join the Harlequins coaching team following his recent retirement.

"He was an unbelievably intelligent player and has already met considerable success coaching Wimbledon over the last few seasons.

"His role as attack coach will afford him the opportunity to bring new and innovative ideas which will undoubtedly benefit the team massively."
