Fondse cops a ban for foul play

Former Stormers hardman Adriaan Fondse, who now plays for struggling English Premiership Newcastle Falcons, has been handed a one-week ban for foul play.

The 28-year-old lock forward appeared at a Rugby Football Union disciplinary hearing, where he answered a charge of striking an opponent – contrary to Law 10(4)(a) – in the game against London Irish at Kingston Park on February 18.

Fondse was sent off for the incident.

The player was suspended for one week and can resume playing on March 1.

The panel was chaired by Jeremy Summers and also comprised Gerard McEvilly and Julian Morris.

Fondse, who has made nine appearances for the club since he joined the Falcons in November, boasts more than 30 Super Rugby appearances with the Stormers.
